Clinical knowledge of children and families does not necessarily translate into knowledge about when and how to contact schools or how to work with them collaboratively. This workshop is designed to provide a framework and guidelines for doing so. We will review how therapists (and other clinicians) can come to understand the child and family in the school setting, and what we can do to foster a supportive child-family-school dynamic.

ABOUT PRESENTER(S):

Mary M. Eno, Ph.D. is a psychologist, family therapist and former school consultant who worked at the interface between families and schools for over forty years. Trained at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, she treated children and families and coordinated the Clinic’s consultation services to local public and private schools. Throughout her teaching career—at the University of Pennsylvania and Byrn Mawr College—she taught a graduate course on the topic of families and schools. For over twenty-five years she was the consulting psychologist at Abington Friends School. Mary is in private practice, treating children, adults, couples and families. Her book The School-Savvy Therapist: Working with Kids, Families and Schools was recently published by W.W. Norton & Company.
