The purpose of this workshop is to help participants integrate a theoretical framework and direct clinical experience.  Age specific complexities in treatment of addiction adolescents, young adult addiction, and their families will be presented and explored, as well Dual Diagnosis issues.  A focus on the importance of family work, as part of a comprehensive treatment approach will be highlighted.

ABOUT PRESENTERS:

Michael Blanche, M.S.S., LCSW has over twenty years of experience treating individuals who have been dually diagnosed with addictions and other serious mental health problems.  He has worked with all levels of care, and has extensive experience in establishing and supervising residential and outpatient programs throughout the Philadelphia metropolitan area.  Michael has been a leader in the field of substance abuse prevention, specializing in presentations and staff development at the middle and high school levels.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • discuss main challenges and roadblocks for adolescents and young adults to access and be successfully engaged in treatment of substance abuse
  • demonstrate familiarity with ways the family can be a part of the solution or a part of the matrix of denial
  • demonstrate an understanding of types of interventions for an individual and the family, in the treatment of substance abuse
  • describe an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of Attachment Theory, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT, as they relate to the treatment of substance abuse in this population

CE CREDITS:

This session is co-sponsored by the PSCP: The Psychology Network and Specialists of Schools. PSCP is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. PSCP maintains responsibility for the program and its content. This program provides 2 hours of CE credits for Licensed Psychologists, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapists.

FEES:

This workshop is free for members of SOS, PSCP, and staff at the host school. There is a $15.00 admission fee for others. CE credits and Act 48 credits are $30.00 each. Payment must be made online via credit card at the time of registration (choose "Pay by Credit Card" option during checkout), or by check or money order made out to SOS (choose the "Pay by Check/Money Order" option during checkout). NO CASH PLEASE.
